and then seamed onto the lower edge of the braid or can be attached as it's knit (see Optional Knit On below).
Using #7 needles, cast on nine stitches. Work in k1, p1 rib for 33". Make three. Braid sections and pin slightly overlapping
ends together; these will be sewn when finishing. Piece should measure about 28" (it will shorten when finishing).
Bottom Slip Stitch Rib Panel:
Using #9 needles, cast on 49 stitches.
Row 1: *p1, yarn in back, slip 1 as if to purl* repeat * to * to last stitch, end p1.
Row 2: Purl.
Repeat these two rows until piece is same length as braid. Bind off on purl row.
Sew slip stitch rib panel to long edge of braid. Seam short edges together to form cowl leaving
braided edges overlapped slightly.
Optional Knit On Bottom Panel (intended for experienced knitters):
Row 1: *p1, yarn in back, slip 1 as if to purl* repeat * to * to last stitch, end slip one as if to knit, slip one edge stitch
from braid, then knit these two stitches together (this attaches the bottom panel to the braid).
Row 2: purl.
Repeat - catching every other row on braid edge at the end of row 1.
